Martin Dawes

Chairman

Founder and Chairman of MDS, Martin played a pivotal role in pioneering Europe’s mobile telecommunications industry. Martin has had an active involvement in the communications industry over three decades and is among the UK's few telecommunications entrepreneurs to consistently achieve a high level of success.

Martin Dawes Telecommunications was established in the mid-1980s and quickly became a leading player in mobile telecommunications service provision. Martin achieved this success through constant innovation, reading the market and identifying the key opportunities.

Through the success of Martin Dawes Telecommunications, Martin went on to establish operations in Australia and South Africa which, together with the European operations, grew rapidly and established themselves as major players in their respective markets. The company was subsequently sold to BT and Martin retained its innovative IT division to establish MDS.

Martin continues to play an active role in the company, ensuring the entrepreneurial spirit continues to drive us.

Sir Julian Horn-Smith

Non-executive Director

Sir Julian was one of the founding members of the Vodafone Group Plc and is considered to be the principal architect in the development of Vodafone’s International Strategy. He was awarded a knighthood by Her Majesty the Queen in 2005 in recognition of his services to international telecommunications. He retired from the Vodafone board in July 2006, where he held the title Deputy Chief Executive Officer.

MDS announced the appointment of Sir Julian Horn-Smith to its board as a non-executive director in 2008.
